The largest oil spill in history prompts the oil company to release an untested designer virus to break down the oil spill. This designer virus is an oil eating microbe designed to consume and break down anything made from petrocarbons like oil, petrol... and plastic.

What starts out as an ecological disaster story turns into an apocalyptic vision of mankinds struggle to survive without oil and plastic. Sounds trivial until you actually start to think how much we rely on these versatile materials. No lubrication for moving parts means no electricity, which means no heating, refrigeration, lighting etc. No plastic means no computers, televisions, radios or anything else electrical for that matter. No transport, no music (CD's, tapes and LP's), no double glazed windows (plastic frames). The list is endless, in the end most of mankind would likely be reduced to a very simple life of the farmer or hunter gatherer.

Written with an unforgiving style, this novel is rare in that it really makes you think, and also helps you to appreciate just how lucky we are.
