The Magical Kingdom of Landover is a four part (with a fifth being released late 2009) fantasy series written by Terry Brooks. The series follows the adventures of Ben Holiday, a former trial lawyer who purchases a magical kingdom. The Kingdom is Landover which is populated by magical races, dragons, a witch and fairies.

Landover is ruled by the King (ben) and protected by the Paladin, a magical knight who is a projection of the current ruler. In the absence of a worthy ruler, the Paladin disappears and Landover falls prey to a physical decay known as "the Tarnish," which slowly spreads from the king's castle (Sterling Silver) to the rest of the kingdom.

"It is the invariable lesson to humanity that distance in time, and in space as well, lends focus. It is not recorded, incidentally, that the lesson has ever been permanently learned."
