The Drenai series follows the history of the Drenai nation and follows various heroes through its history. The Drenai Empire is a long standing nation, owing its freedom to the legendary heroes Karnak and Egel, the first Earl of Bronze. The Nation overcomes many threats over its long history, but eventually falls to the might of the Nadir, after the warrior Tenaka Khan unites the many tribes under one banner. The Drenai empire at this time is ruled by an evil emperor Ceska, who creates fierce and brutal creatures who maim, kill and feed.

The main two characters in this series are Druss the Legend, a hero embodying virtue, courage, honour, chivalry and strength of character, and Skillgannon the Damned, a swordsman of unequelled skill, weilding the demon trapped Swords of Night and Day.
