Beyond the hanging wall is set in the same world as the Axis trilogy and Wayfarer redemption but on another continent called Escator.
This novel is a bridging novel between the events of The Wayfarer Redemption and The Darkglass Mountain and introduces the characters Garth Baxtor and Maximilian who appear in the Darkglass mountain after the events of this novel.
Garth is apprentice to his father, a physician and is gifted with an exception power of the healing touch. Garth follows his father on an annual visit to the mines of the Veins which is worked by condemned prisoners.
while visiting this mine, garth see's a Tattoo of the Manteceros, a mythical beast. What is unusual about this is that the tattoo is limited to the rightfull Kind and his direct heir to the throne.
Garth realises that this must be the Prince Maximillian who dissapeared 20 years ago.
It's up to Garth to figure out a way of resuing Maximillian from this penal colony so he can regain his rightful place on the throne of Escator.
Beyond the hanging wall has a much more relaxed pace that Sara's previous novels, which is no bad thing and quite refreshing thanks to it's fantastic writing style and originality.
